| See our Roster for a list of celebrated stars that are more accessible than you may think. | Rock n’ soul will rule the night as Christine Ohlman, the flashy, gritty, platinum blonde “Beehive Queen,” who is the long-time vocalist with NBC’s Saturday Night Live Band, brings Christine Ohlman & Rebel Montez to the stage for a show that will mix songs from her four CDs (The Hard Way, Radio Queen, Wicked Time, and Strip) and The Deep End, a passionate collection of new originals set for release in 2007. Ohlman, who’s been called “the number-one secret weapon in America’s singin’ sweepstakes” by the All-Music Guide, will be joined by Eric Fletcher (lead and slide guitar), Michael Colbath (bass) and Larry Donahue (drums) in serving up a night of incendiary blues- and soul-tinged music driven by a voice that, said one critic, “is out to rearrange your furniture.” Ohlman’s shows are legendary for their powerful musicianship and raw emotion. She is a consummate singer who can wring the last ounce of feeling from a note, and who’s gone heart to heart with the best—she counts Al Green, George Harrison, Hubert Sumlin, Ian Hunter, Charlie Musselwhite, Irma Thomas, Chrissie Hynde, Marshall Crenshaw, and Eddie Kirkland as but a few of those she has sung with in appearances on Grammy-nominated CDs and live television shots like the Saturday Night Live 25th Anniversary telecast and Bob Dylan’s 30th Anniversary concert broadcast from Madison Square Garden. One writer’s assessment of the on-stage action: “From the mile-high beehive hairdo (augmented by an enviable collection of rhinestones and sequins) to the textbook rock n’ roll radio lungs, Christine Ohlman reminds you of what used to be great about rock before it began to think too much. Her world is about the blues, her boyfriend, and big-finned Cadillacs…real, intense, and direct. Ohlman’s stage patter was priceless, confiding little secrets in us. Late in the night an anxious torching of Buddy Holly’s “Not Fade Away” sounded impossibly fresh and new. Watching her wind between roots rock and blues and never lose control of the wheel was a thrilling, reassuring sight.” (Metroland/Albany, NY) “ I’ve come here tonight to set your souls on fire,” she’ll tell an audience. And she will. |
